At least two South African soldiers have been killed in the eastern democratic republic of Congo (DRC) where they are battling M23 rebels.

The South African contingent is part of the SADC mission in the DRC that is deployed to support and assist the government of D.R Congo in its effort to bring peace, security and stability in that region.

South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa assured that his government will continue to show support to assist the current security situation prevailing in the eastern DRC

Violence has been on the rise in the conflict-hit region in recent weeks, with many blaming attacks on the M23 rebel group that has been fighting Congolese soldiers in the region for years.
