Lagos state government has hinted at the commencement of construction on the next phases of rail transport in the state, launching the purple and green rail lines.

 

Speaking at the commissioning of the Lagos rail mass transit red line in Ikeja, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu lauded his predecessors for laying solid foundations for the state, promising to increase the pace of development and leave the state better than he met it.

 

According to him, the next phase is the green line, a 71.4km rail from Marina to Lekki free trade zone, which will complement the Lekki airport, while the Purple line is 54.35km from Ojo close to Lagos state university, to Mowe in Ogun state.

 

He also explained that the second phase of the blue line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, will be extended to some parts of Ogun state on the request of Governor Dapo Abiodun, noting that Governors in the south west have agreed to work together for regional development.

 

Sanwo-Olu further maintained that plans are in top gear to actualize the fourth mainland bridge project, vowing to tremendously improve the transportation system of the state
