National identity management commission says persons with National identification Numbers will be enumerated to the database of the new identity, which can be used for general purpose, including financial transaction and identification.
Head card management service, Peter Iwegbu speaking during an interview, explained that NIN remains valid and active, and will be the foundation of operations for the new card, noting that Nigerians can decide to apply for the card or use the electronic version.
He further stated that the commission is interested in creating an identity card that transcends just identification, but becomes a digital record and database for the carrier, ensuring that all valid information about the carrier is available on a unified system.
Meanwhile, AFRIGO, the agency in charge of producing the card, through its head commercial business, Nnenna Achife has assured that individual data will maintain a confidential state, preserved by high technology, to avoid theft or crime.
