The Oyo State Government has banned the use of styrofoam for packaging food, in a bid to tackle menace of food poisoning, and other sharp practices.

 

The state’s Commissioner for Health Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi stated this at the Food Safety Stakeholders Forum, stating that it is the responsibility of the government to regulate food business operations to ensure the presentation of wholesome edibles for public consumption in the state.

 

According to Ajetunmobi the menace of food poisoning, indiscriminate use of chemical products for food production, processing, packaging, being carried out by food business operators have become great public health concerns in the state.

 

The state government also inaugurated a task force on food safety, to ensure that vendors and stakeholders in the industry adhere strictly to hygienic practices for the good of the consumers.
