The Inspector–General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has lamented the unprecedented rise in cybercrime, which he described as a serious threat to governments, businesses and individuals.

 

Egbetokun said this at the opening ceremony of INTERPOL’s African Working Group Cybercrime meeting for African heads of cybercrime units in Abuja, noting that urgent steps are needed for everyone to adapt swiftly and collaboratively to effectively combat the threats.

 

The police boss noted that the Nigeria Police Force has established a National Cybercrime Centre, and the construction of a world-class Cybercrime Fusion Centre equipped with forensic facilities, to adequately combat the menace.

 

Director, interpol cybercrime centre, Craig Jones urged the NPF and other security outfits in Africa ro tap into the robust resources available, with both national and international partners.
