The Lagos State Government has announced it will begin strictly enforcing requirements for firefighting devices in buildings across the state.
This comes after recent fire incidents have put lives and property at risk.
In a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Ministry Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mukaila Sanusi, the Commissioner Dr Olayinka Olumide, pointed to a recent major blaze in the Mandilas building on Lagos Island as an urgent warning sign.
The Commissioner insisted that property developers and owners must prioritise provisions for fire safety devices in new and existing buildings or face government sanctions including being sealed off.
