Lagos state government has explained the main purpose of the electronic geographic information system and Urban Development Office, which is to provide comprehensive spatial data that can be utilized for effective planning in the State.

 

In a statement via X, the agency said by integrating geospatial information with other relevant data sets, valuable insights into spatial patterns and trends for budgeting will be available, while also enabling monitoring and change detection.

 

The statement also stated that through satellite imagery or aerial photography integrated into the E-GIS system, organizations can track changes in their geographic areas of interest over time.

 

It further explained that the capability proves valuable for detecting illegal construction activities or unauthorized changes in land use.
