The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has frowned at sharp practices by political parties, especially granting unnecessary waivers to new entrants and offering them their tickets, saying such development has continued to put a lot of litigation costs on the commission.

INEC Chairman, Professor. Mahmood Yakubu speaking at the first regular quarterly consultative meeting with political parties, submitted that court judgements contribute to the huge expenses, which he described as unnecessary distraction.

On the commission’s preparation for elections in Edo and Ondo, Yakubu warned that it would not extend the timeline for the nomination of their candidates, stating that only six parties have so far filed their nominations in Edo state.

He said for the Ondo State Governorship election, party primaries begin in the next two weeks on 6th April 2024 and ends three weeks later on 27thApril 2024, explaining that, so far, 16 out of 19 political parties have indicated interest in participating in the election.
