The federal government has charged state government to become active parts of power generation by practically imbibing the guidelines of the electricity act 2023, which allow state governments to operate within the power sector.

 

Minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu said this during a session with newsmen, noting that the electricity act has paved way for sub-nationals to take initiative, stepping in to tackle challenges in the power chain, in accordance to their needs and peculiarities.

 

Meanwhile, Abuja Electricity Distribution PLC has threatened to disconnect the electricity supply of 86 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) over a total debt of N47.1bn.

 

In a disconnection notice, the disco gave the MDAs including Ministry of Finance, Information, Budget, Works and Housing, barracks, Nigeria Police Force, Presidential Villa, CBN Governor, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), among others, 10 days to comply and defray their debts or risk blackout from February 28, 2024.
