There was temporary unrest in Kaduna today after police clamped down on members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria popularly known as Shiites, who were holding a procession in the city centre.
The protesters who were demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-zak Zaki were dispersed by police in the state capital who described their gathering as a contravention of the law, claiming the sect had been banned by the federal government.
In a statement by police spokesman in the state, ASP Mansir Hassan, the IMN members came out in the morning with dangerous weapons and started attacking innocent residents, including police who attempted to disperse them, leading to the injury of some officers.
The police PRO further explained that some suspects in possession with dangerous weapons have been arrested and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
