The federal government has hinted at the possibility of establishing state police as part of plans to improve the security structure of the nation.

Briefing newsmen after a meeting between President Tinubu, state governors and other stakeholders, Minister for information and national orientation, Mohammed Malagi stated that there will be series of meetings to fine tune the modalities for setting up state police, as the federal government and state governments are agreeing to the necessity of having state policy.

The Minister noted that the President has instructed the inspector general of police to collaborate with state governors, to look into the issue of hoarding food commodities, with the aim to establish free flow of food to the people to tackle food shortage.

The emergency meeting is coming on the heels of recent outcries by Nigerians on the state of security, hike in food prices and shortage in food supplies.
