President Bola Tinubu has placed a temporary ban on all public funded foreign trips for all federal government officials with effect from April 1, 2024.

The suspension was contained in a circular addressed to secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, for onward circulation to all the ministries, department and agencies (MDAS).

According to the statement, the directive is in line with the current economic challenges, and the need for responsible fiscal management, to prudently utilize national resources.

The circular also directed all government officials who intend to go on any public-funded international trip to seek and obtain presidential approval at least two weeks prior to embarking on any such trip, which must be deemed absolutely necessary.
