The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has called on the security agencies to explore avenues to secure the release of its officials held hostage in brass local government area in Bayelsa State.

The Commission in a statement on its verified X platform said the commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where officials are been held hostage,

INEC condemned the action as detrimental to credible elections and called on security agencies including the police to swing into action and rescue the electoral officers.

Earlier on saturday, Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri, had accused the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timipre Sylva, of being behind electoral violence recorded in the Nembe-Bassambiri area of the state.

Diri, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the poll, is seeking re-election for another four years in office.
