The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed support for the ongoing protest by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational (NASU) and associated institutions of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), demanding an immediate payment of the withheld salaries of the aggrieved workers.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero reacting to the strike action by the sister unions, argued that there had been no credible reason or explanation for withholding those salaries in the first place, wondering why the government has decided to plunge the members into indescribable hardship.

He noted that strike actions by SSANU and NASU will dent the purported confidence the new government is preaching, unleashing hardship on students and parents who bear the burden of feeding, housing and movement on the deplorable roads.

The NLC urged the government, to expeditiously pay up the outstanding salaries, advising not to take for granted the maturity of the unions.
