The Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has explained why the country has been experiencing low power supply, attributing the trend to the low supply of gas to generating companies (GenCos).

Adelabu said this during a meeting with electricity generation and distribution companies, noting that he had crucial discussions with power Generating companies (GENCOs) and Distribution companies (DISCOs) to address the ongoing issue of blackouts in the country.

The minister said he visited facilities in Olorunshogo, Ogun State, and Omotosho, Ondo State to understand the challenges firsthand, before resolving that the gas supply issue is top priority.

Meanwhile, Adelabu acknowledged the sector’s liquidity challenge, promising that the federal government is working on validating the debt and determining a fair resolution, addressing the indebtedness to GENCOs by Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

He however restated unwavering commitment to addressing the challenges affecting power supply, appealing to the citizens to exercise patience while the government fix the issue.
