Kano state police says it has uncovered a plot by three persons to move cocaine from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia during Hadjj pilgrimage.

In a statement by police public relation officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, Sharifat Abdullahi allegedly contacted one Auwal Ishaq and Idris Sani Suleiman to allow their wives travel with her for Hadjj with a promise to carry a package for her.

According to both men, they paid three million and six million respectively to facilitate the travel but raised alarm after they lost contact with their wives In the course of the travel and reported to the police.

The police chief noted that their report led to police investigation and the arrest of the principal suspect, Abdullahi, who eventually confessed that the two complainants, Ishaq and Suleiman, were also part of the deal and were well aware that their wives would be used as drug couriers.

According to the police spokesman, Ishaq’s two wives were promised N1 million each on return from the trip, while Suleiman’s wife was to get N150,000 for playing the role of a middleman.

Abdullahi also confessed to have been conspiring with Suleiman in recruiting people for a Kano-based cartel of human and drug traffickers.

Meanwhile, the command has transferred the case to the state office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the completion of the investigation.
