The federal government says it will continue to improve and promote local production of vehicles, to meet the domestic needs of Nigeria, while appealing to residents to favor local vehicles over imported ones.

The Director general of National automotive design and development council, Oluwemimo Osanipin said this today during a televised interview, stating that the local automobile industry has the capacity to meet the standards and demands of Nigerians.

Osanipin also noted that the industry has shifted attention from fossil fuel to compressed natural gas to ensure that the new reality in vehicle production is obtainable locally.

According to him, the progress recorded in the industry so far is encouraging, submitting that if such achievements are sustained, the Nigerian automobile market will be a force in Africa.
