President Bola Tinubu has posthumously awarded the 17 soldiers killed in Okuama Delta State with National Awards and directed the Army Command to Ensure the payment of all benefits within 90 days.

He said this at the burial of the soldiers in the Federal Capital Territory and promised free education to all children of the deceased soldiers.

The late Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Major Ali and three other senior officers were posthumously honoured with Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) while the 13 soldiers were honoured with a Medal.

The President also praised the military for their restraint in not carrying out vengeance on innocent members of the Okuama community and assured that the perpetrators and their sponsors will not go unpunished.

In his address, The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa described the moment as a deeply painful one but asked families and loved ones to bask in the memories of the legacies left by the fallen heroes.

The four ranking officers and 13 officers were ambushed and killed while on a peace keeping mission in Okuama in Delta state.
