Somalia said there is no room for mediation in a dispute with Ethiopia unless Addis Ababa cancelled a controversial deal with the breakaway region of Somaliland.

The comment comes after the African union’s conflict resolution body discussed the crisis and called on the two countries to exercise restraint, de-escalate and engage in meaningful dialogue towards finding a peaceful resolution of the matter.

The former Somalia minister of planning, Abdi Aynte said if the situation between Somalia and Ethiopia is not well handled it could create another faction of terrorist group in the region

Abdi added that part of the deal allows Ethiopia to recognise Somaliland as an independent nation, also allowing Ethiopia to a leased military base on the rea sea
