Vice President Keshim Shettima has addressed reports of conspiracy to depose the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, by the state government.

Shettima while delivering a speech at the North West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State, harped that the sultanate is an institution that should not be politicized, as such action could demean and destabilise the heritage and identity of northern Nigeria.

Recall that the Executive Director of the Muslim Rights Council, MURIC, Professor Isiaq Akintola, had raised the alarm that the Sokoto was allegedly plotting to depose the Sultan, describing it as a dangerous game.

Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, had deposed 15 traditional rulers for various offences.
