The secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, has met with the chief observer, European union election observation mission, Barry Andrews, with his team in Abuja.

The chief observer of the mission, Barry Andrews, during a presentation of its priority recommendations based on its observation of the general elections identified six areas of improvement in Nigeria’s electoral process.

Andrews listed ambiguities in the law, the establishment of a publicly accountable process for the selection of INEC members, and ensuring real-time publication of election results as challenges observed by the team.

According to him, the election exposed enduring systemic weaknesses and therefore signaled a need for further legal and operational reforms to enhance transparency, inclusiveness and accountability.
