Senators have agreed that President Bola Tinubu has rights under the Nigeria Labour Law to fire any Chief Executive Officer of government agencies, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Babatunde Irukera.

The lawmaker reached the resolution based on a motion sponsored by Leader of the Senate, Michael Bamidele, citing breach of provisions of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC and seeking restoration of Irukera.

While Seriake Dickson demanded the reasons for the sack of Irukera, other colleagues referred to a section of the FCCPC act that said the commissioner can be sacked based on inability to perform.

After the deliberations, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio restated that the President has power under the Nigeria Labour Law to hire and fire.

The Senate subsequent approved sack of Irukera.
