Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restated his government’s desire to bring down illegal structures in markets, while clearing congested areas to allow free access for rescue workers to adequately carry out safety operations when necessary.

 

Sanwo-Olu said this when he visited parts of Docemo area of Lagos Island gutted by fire, informing residents and traders in the community that regulatory officials will move in full force to the area, while the markets will remain closed till further notice.

 

The Governor who spoke to residents and traders affected by the fire outbreak, promising that a proper audit and enumeration will be done to see how Government can assist them.

 

Recall Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service had said one life was lost in the inferno that razed and damaged 14 buildings in Docemo, Lagos Island, on Tuesday.

 

The Director of the service, Margaret Adeseye, said the victim was refuelling a working generator which sparked the fire.
