Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Aliko Dangote has donated 80,000 bags of 10 kilograms of rice to the Lagos State government for further distribution to vulnerable residents.

Dangote stated that the donation was aimed at helping the government cushion the effects of the economic challenges faced by Lagosians, as well as aligning with the principle of assisting the needy during Ramadan.

He assured that the donation carried out through the Aliko Dangote Foundation would reach all 774 Local Councils before the end of Ramadan.

Expressing gratitude for the gesture, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended Dangote, alongside his friend, Femi Otedola for their generosity and urged Nigerians to understand that the current economic crisis was a global phenomenon.

According to the governor, the ‘gesture shows that the Foundation prioritises the people’s welfare beyond the pursuit of profit and accumulation of wealth’.

Dangote’s donation to the state is part of a larger donation of one million bags to be distributed to vulnerable households across the country.
