The president of the senate, Godswill Akpabio, has strongly rejected claims by senator Elisha Abbo that he influenced the judgment of the court of appeal that sacked him from the senate.

Akpabio through his spokesman, Eseme Eyiboh, stated that allegations by abbo that his failure to support his principle’s bid to emerge as president of senate was the reason for his sack by the court were unfounded and misleading.

Abbo in a statement after the appeal court in a judgement delivered yesterday, nullified his election as the senator representing Adamawa northern senatorial district, claimed that verdict was politically motivated.

The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, vacated the tribunal judgement that earlier affirmed abbo of the all-progressives congress, APC, as the valid winner of the senatorial seat.

The court also ordered INEC to withdraw certificate of return issued to Abbo and issue same to candidate of the Peoples democratic party, Amos Kumai.
