The president of the senate Godswill Akpabio has appealed for an innovative approach to revenue generation, taxation and implementation of monetary policies in Nigeria, in line with the peculiarities of the Nigerian economy, lifestyle and operational systems.

Akpabio said this today during a summit for the national assembly in Ikot Ekepene, calling on lawmakers to assist the federal inland revenue service, finance and economy ministry and other revenue generating agencies in expanding the scope of Nigeria’s revenue landscape to aid the government in achieving its objectives.

He also advocated for a review of some sections of the constitution to allow a level of independence for some revenue generating agencies and a decentralization of some quarters in the government to hasten decision making and implementation of agendas.

The president of the senate also decried the level of security at the airports and borders, stating that outsiders take advantage of negligence and corruption by security operatives at the nations entry and exit points to cart away resources from Nigeria, without paying tax which would have generated income for the government.
