The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has increased the tariff payable by Band A customers that receive an average daily electricity supply of 20 hours or more from N68 per kilowatt-hour to N225 kilowatt-hour.

According to NERC, this category of customers constitutes about 15 percent of the total Nigerian electricity customers and with a metering rate of upto 80 percent.

The commission assured of speedy provision of meter across these customers to ensure they are not over-billed especially in the new era.

The increase in tariff follows a similar increase in the base price for natural gas from. $2.18 to $2.42 per metric million British thermal unit by Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA.
