President, pharmaceutical society of Nigeria, Professor Cryil Usifoh says stakeholder have engaged the federal government to work out modalities that will improve and compliment government effort in facilitating local production of drugs.

 

Usifoh speaking during a televised interview, stated that governments desire to spotlight the pharmaceutical sector is a welcome development that is capable of generating revenue and improving availability of drugs to the local consumers.

 

He also appealed to the government to introduce grants and financial support for the industry, to drastically reduce cost of production and distribution, while stating that huge taxation remains a major setback in the industry.

 

Usifoh further advocated introduction of systems that allows medicine security to adequately prepare the nation against possible outbreaks or pandemic, which he said will be a major disaster considering the current state of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector.
