Nigeria labour congress has again warned state governors against hijacking the negotiations for the new national minimum wage, stating that such actions are against the laws of minimum wage.

NLC head of information and public affairs, Benson Ujah restated the stance of union in a session with news men, noting that claims by governors that it has to determine the new wage based on its revenue capacity, is a betrayal of the process and may attract consequences of national magnitude.

According to Ujah, the government must show responsibility by cutting down on cost of governances at all levels and permanently blocking unproductive ventures funded by national revenue.

Earlier, Jigawa state governor, Umar Namadi had stated that the governors agreed to renegotiate the minimum wage, in line with the financial capacity, a statement, the labour union described as dictatorial tendencies.
