The Nigerian Army has finally bowed to pressure and withdrawn from Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State about eight weeks where seventeen soldiers were ambushed and killed.

This was disclosed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori while briefing the state house correspondents at the government house in Asaba.

The governor said, “I spoke with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Monday, 6th of May, and as of today, 8th of May, 2024, the military has withdrawn from Okuama.

“With this development, the people of Okuama can now safely return to their homes and begin the process of reintegration and rebuilding their homes.”

Recall that the Governor visited the destroyed community five weeks after the military allegedly razed down the community, forcing residents to reside in surrounding bushes.

He had also inaugurated an Internally Displaced Persons Management Committee for the displaced Okuama inhabitants after much criticism.
