The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted the public, especially those with relatives abroad, about a new fraudulent scheme perpetrated by scammers posing as NDLEA officers.

The NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, issued the alert in a statement, noting that scammers usually call unsuspecting citizens to inform them of the arrest of their relatives at the airport in Nigeria with illicit drugs upon arrival in the country.

They then make a demand of millions of naira from panicking family members to facilitate the release of such persons from NDLEA custody.

He advised family members involved in such case not to part with their money, urging persons with plans to travel, to be discreet about their movement, to avoid falling prey to such devious schemes.
