Operatives of the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance department wasted no time in commencing the demolition of shanties along the Bariga Gbagada Drainage Channel as part of efforts to mitigate incidents of flooding in the state on Wednesday.

This follows an earlier 48 hour notice to the owners of such illegal structures by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

Wahab confirmed removal of the shanties in several clips of the exercise shared on the micro-blogging platform, X.

The decision to clear the shanties and other structures followed a massive flood that grounded activities in Lagos and resulted in the collapse of a two-story building in the Mushin area.
