Haller hits winner as Ivory Coast beat Nigeria to take third AFCON title

Hosts of the African Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast have won the competition, having come from behind to defeat Super Eagles of Nigeria in a thrilling final.

The Super Eagles were the first to score in the first half of the game at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

But the Elephants of Ivory Coast equalized in the second half following a header by Frank Kessie and a second goal from Sebastian Haller.

Ivory Coast’s success sees them add this year’s title to those claimed in 1992 and 2015, while this win also allows them to join Nigeria on three Cup of Nations triumphs overall.

They also take home  $7 million for lifting the trophy. While the runners-up, Nigeria, gets $4 million.

The two losing semi-finalists, South Africa and Democratic Republic of the Congo, each receive $2.5 million.
