The Labour Party has refuted claims of possession of N3.5 billion and allegations of misappropriation levelled against its national chairman, Julius Abure.
National publicity secretary of the Party, Obiora Ifoh made this declaration in a statement, reacting to call by the national treasurer, Oluchi Oparah, requesting transparency from Abure regarding the party’s financial affairs.
Oparah had alleged that fiunds amounting to over N3.5 billion derived from the sales of forms and other fundraising activities for the 2023 general elections were not properly remitted, restraining her from managing the party’s finances due to the actions of the national chairman.
Reacting to the allegations, Ifoh stated that the national treasurer is under some external influences, describing her claims as concocted statement drafted by some detractors to further tar the image of the party.
He further explained that the party has not earned N3.5 billion neither does the chairman, Abure own several houses and property as spuriously alleged by the estranged National Treasurer, even though no law prohibits him from owning properties.
The party stalwart however stated that the party will definitely take her case to the disciplinary committee where appropriate measures will be taken.
