Imo state police command has confirmed the death of at least two police officers, after gunmen attacked their patrol vehicle along old Gariki Road Okigwe.

 

Confirming the incident, state Police spokesman, Henry Okoye on behalf of the Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma condemned the attack by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate Eastern Security Network (ESN).

 

According to him, the incident, occurred when the personnel of MOPOL 18, Owerri were ambushed while on patrol duty, with the suspect said to have thrown dynamite on the officers’ patrol vehicle and engaged them in a protracted gunfight.

 

He said the police boss has carried out an on-the-spot assessment, tasking the operatives to go all out in synergy with other security agencies and hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the attack.
