The Federal Government has assured that the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund) portal for eligible students will be opened this month as scheduled, explaining that the process is technically driven and necessary measures need to be put in place for proper execution.

The Execute Secretary NELFund, Akintunde Sawyerr, disclosed this in an interview, stating that the delay experienced in the launch of the platform is solely to ensure efficiency, reiterating President Tinubu’s commitment to ensure that no student drops out of school for financial reasons.

Sawyerr also said the scheme was designed for indigent Nigerian students in tertiary institutions, noting that the public will be adequately informed on the application process to ensure transparency and fairness.

President Bola Tinubu had on June 12, 2023, signed the Access to Higher Education Bill into law to enable indigent students to access interest-free loans to pursue their education in any Nigerian tertiary institution.
