Erik Ten Hag has led Manchester United to their 13th FA Cup after holding off a late Manchester City fightback to win 2-1 at Wembley, in what was likely his final game as manager.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo latched onto sleeping moments from City’s defence, to secure a two-goal lead, thereby becoming the first teenagers to score in a FA Cup final since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2004.

City – targeting a historic double-double – fought back after the break, with Jeremy Doku giving them something to cheer about, but it was at best a consolation as the Reds stood their ground.

The result ensured United will be competing in next year’s Europa League, with Chelsea dropping into the Europa Conference League and Newcastle missing out on Europe altogether next season.
