The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has appealed to persons promoting the proposed October 1 protest to shelve the idea, and allow the government enough time to implement its policies.

In a statement ahead of Nigeira’s 64th Independence Anniversary, Barau who acknowledged the prevalent challenges in the country, explained that it was not peculiar to Nigeria, while assuring that the government is not resting on its oars.

The lawmaker who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to reviving the economy and tackling insecurity and other challenges facing the country.

Earlier, during a special thanksgiving service the secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume and president of the senate, Godswill Akpabio had called for an abortion of the protest, stating that the country is on the right path and will continue to make progress.
