Malawi’s President Llazarus Chakwera has been criticized by the Catholic Church, saying the country has become worse in the four years of his leadership.

In a 16 page pastoral letter, the church accused Chakwera’s government of ethnic bias in political appointment, unfulfilled campaign promises, and widespread corruption.

The letter also said the government had failed to increase the incomes of the citizens despite the drastic fall of the Malawian Kwacha.

Meanwhile information minister, Moses Kunkuyu who acknowledged the issues raised by the church said the government will not engage in an item-by-item response to the letter
