Msholozi's use of uMkhonto weSizwe: Navigating the symbolic and political terrain

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) has lost a court battle seeking to stop former President Jacob Zuma from using the name and logo similar to that of the governing party’s disbanded military wing, uMkhonto weSizwe.

The ruling party argued that the use of the name by the new party would lead to voter confusion in next month’s polls.

A court in Durban rejected the ANC’s application in a move that means that MK party and 81 year old Zuma can continue their campaign ahead of next month’s general election.

UMkhonto weSizwe co-founder Jabulani Khumalo said the party had ‘conquered’ shortly after the court ruling.
