Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, his counterpart in Lagos Island East LCDA, Hon. Muibi Folawiyo, and Chairperson of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun, have been recognised with prestigious international awards for their outstanding contributions to local governance.

The trio received the YOMAFA Global Award and the World Royal Award (WORA) during a ceremony held on Wednesday at Ostra Hotel, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.

Hamzat was honoured as the Most Outstanding Local Government Chairman in Nigeria and World’s Most Influential Facilitator.

In his acceptance speech, he attributed the recognition to the over 80 roads his administration rehabilitated and constructed, as well as various infrastructural and social support initiatives.

“These awards motivate me to further deliver on the mandate I have been given,” he stated.

Hon. Muibi Folawiyo, represented by his deputy, Monsurat Balogun, received the award for Best Performing Local Government Chairman.

In his speech, Folawiyo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to fulfill many of his campaign promises, which included the weekly commissioning of numerous projects.

Under his leadership, the council has sustained a massively discounted food market for over 15 months, providing relief to residents since the fuel subsidy removal.

Princess Surah Animashaun was recognised as the World’s Most Befitting Triumphant Woman and Best Performing Female Local Government Chairman in Lagos.

Dedicating the award to the women folk, Animashaun  highlighted the achievements of women in politics and governance, stating, “We women have been working tirelessly and doing well in our Local Government and various sectors. I want to encourage women to keep working hard and believe that everything will be fine, even if they’re not where they dreamed of.”

The trip all hailed YOMAFA for promoting Yoruba language, culture, and the Omoluabi ethos in society.

The ceremony featured over 45 award categories, one of which was claimed by Adamimogo’s Deputy Head of Marketing, Opeyemi Makinde, who was voted Best Female Broadcaster of 2024.

The event drew dignitaries from across the country, including representative of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hon. Toyin Aremu, Nollywood artists, musicians, producers, and leading broadcasters.
