The Senate said that it will make it mandatory for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload election results online and propose a framework to facilitate rapid conclusion of court matter before the commencement of a new tenure.
In a televised interview, chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Sharafadeen Ali, said the current legal provisions in Nigeria should be reconstructed to allow speedy conclusion of all pre-election matters before the election and election petitions concluded before swearing in.
On election violence and prosecution, Ali argued that establishing another agency to address election violence will cost the nation a fortune and create another financial burden on the government, suggesting that the police be empowered to address such cases.
The senator also noted that the 10th senate under Godswill Akpabio is interested and will invest in fairness, equity and adequate representation of the people in every sphere.
