The leadership of the Senate has promised that all lawmakers will shorten their holidays to scrutinize the 2024 appropriations bill and ensure it is passed on December 30 to sustain the January-December budget cycle.

The Senate majority leader, Opeyemi Bamidele said this today during a session with journalists in his home town, Iyin Ekiti, stating that the national cannot be held to ransom or put on a hold because of holidays as lawmakers must put national interest ahead of personal desires.

Speaking further, Bamidele decried the spate of financial leakages and broad day robbery perpetrated unhindered by economic saboteurs, who do everything to keep exchange rates high against the Naira or trying to make the Naira unavailable to the people, thereby unleashing untold hardship on the people.

According to him, the federal government would, from next year, wage a relentless war against such entities, enforcing the law and making sure they face the consequences of their actions.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker also assured that Nigeria would witness a true era of renewed hope that would herald development, progress, and prosperity, citing the diverse plans the administration of President Bola Tinubu had put in place to transform the national economy.
