Russia has described the Pope Francis’s call for an end to the war in Ukraine as a request to Kyiv’s Western Allies to abandon their ambition and recognise their mistake in the Ukraine war.

Recall Pope Francis had urged Ukraine to have the courage of the white flag and negotiate an end to the war with Russia which began with Moscow’s full-scale invasion two years ago.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the west was using Ukraine as an instrument of its ambitions to weaken Russia, stressing that the country had never obstructed negotiations.

Earlier Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy had rebuffed pope Francis’s call to negotiate an end to the war with Russia, saying the pontiff was engaging in virtual mediation.
