The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, counterparts, have resolved to commence the planned nationwide strike from midnight today.

The strike is to protest the brutalization of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero and others in Owerri, Imo State on November 1, as well as pending labour issues in the State.

President of TUC, Festus Osifo, said the strike would remain until government at all levels wake up to their responsibility, directing its affiliates to implement the resolutions of the National Executive Council.

Recall, organized labour had given the federal government an ultimatum to wade into the situation or risk national industrial disharmony which it said was the only language to frown at maltreatment of the work force.

Earlier, President of the national Industrial Court Justice Benedict Kanyip had issued a restraining order following an ex-parte application by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, decrying the untold hardship such action will unleash on the people.
