The Police Council has confirmed the acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as the substantive IGP.

Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, revealed this to State House correspondents after a meeting of the council presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa.

Geidam said Egbetokun’s confirmation follows his satisfactory discharge of duties in the past three months since his appointment on June 20, noting that Egbetokun had provided a blueprint for ensuring the security of the country, which indicates his suitability for the office.

The new IGP replaced Usman Baba, who was appointed as the IGP by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021.
