The Defence Headquarters has revealed how soldiers successfully foiled an ambush on the convoy of the Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road on Saturday.

In a statement today, Defence spokesman Maj-Gen. Edward Buba said troops from the 29 Task Force Brigade led the operation to repel the attack about 6 kilometres from Benesheikh.

Although Governor Mai Mala Buni was not part of the convoy at the time, one police officer died, five others were wounded, including military, police, and intelligence escorts, who are now in stable condition at the hospital.

Buba also announced that troops, including the brigade commander, are currently conducting fighting patrols to hunt down and eliminate the terrorists responsible for the ambush while operations are ongoing to enhance security along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
