The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Governor of Kwara State Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq says the Supreme Court verdict on local government financial autonomy relieves the burden on governors.

Razaq speaking at the State House in Abuja in the company of his Bauchi and Imo State counterparts Bala Mohammed and Hope Uzodimma, said governors are happy with the devolution of power with respect to local government autonomy.

Governor Abdul Razak said the Nigeria Governors’ Forum will meet next Wednesday to come up with a resolution about the matter, while noting that the President is working on the new national minimum wage which he will also transmit to the National Assembly for robust debate before it’s adopted.

Earlier, Senior advocate of Nigeria and human rights activist Femi Falana has expressed support for the supreme court’s decision, stating that the judgment was not meant to strip the state governments of its influence, but rather, would promote accountability at the grassroots level.
