Lagos state government says it will review the tenancy law in the state to curb land grabbing, unregulated land sale, and property crime in the state, to ensure residents acquire or dispose lands and properties in line with state laws.

Special adviser to the Governor on Housing, Barrakat Odunuga-Bakare said this in a televised interview, noting that the recent trend of real estate related crime has heightened the vigilance of the state government to shady deals done within the sector.

According to her, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the commissioner of housing, Moruf Akinderu – Fatai to partner all relevant stakeholders to work out modalities to actively monitor land, property acquisition and rent to ensure such transactions are done within the ambit of state laws.

Odunuga-Bakare urged lagosians to report improper conduct or unfair treatments by landlords or agents to the state real estate regulation authority, saddled with the responsibility to mediate citizen rights through the citizen’s mediations centre.
