The Lagos State government has announced a new coconut project expected to create 200,000 jobs for youth.
This was revealed during a visit by the Food and Agriculture Organisation Country Representative to Nigeria, Dominique Koffy.
Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized the diverse uses of coconut, for food products like bread and garri to environmental benefits such as climate change mitigation and stated that all provisions, including counterpart funding, are ready.
On his part, Koffy expressed FAO’s support for the coconut value chain development in Lagos, adding that FAO and Lagos would also work on developing cattle feedlots to boost youth productivity and export opportun
ities.
